In 1949 the Rev. William Freeman was appointed as Minister. By this time the church was advised by the Chapel Committee that it should make application for a building license and that the War Damage Commission should be approached to settle the amount of compensation recoverable. The work started in real earnest. A building license was obtained, an amount was agreed with the War Damage Commission and final plans were agreed upon. Tenders were issued and eventually the contract was placed with Messrs. E. Bishop & Sons, Ltd. Building was commenced in April, l95l.
The laying of the foundation stone took place on Saturday, 6th October, 1951, by Harold Andrews. From that day onwards the work of building proceeded steadily. The Trustees met frequently to consider questions relating to lighting, furnishings, carpeting, seating accommodation, arrangements for the Choir and the repair of the Church Walk.
