A ALDERSGATE SUNDAY - Methodist celebrate this Sunday each year. Influenced by the Moravians the Wesleys joined in a 'Religious Society' in London, and in May 1738 both underwent a profound spiritual experience. John famously described this in his Journal for 24 May 1738 In the evening I went unwillingly to a society in Aldersgate Street, where one was reading Luther and preface to the Epistle to the Romans. About a quarter to nine, while he was describing the change which God works in the heart through faith in Christ, I felt my heart strangely warmed. I felt I did trust in Christ, Christ alone for salvation, and an assurance was given me that he had taken away my sins, even mine and saved me from the law of sin and death. E EASTER - Celebrates the resurrection from death of Jesus Christ. It is the oldest and most important festival in the Christian year and initiates the 50-day period culminating in Pentecost. P PALM SUNDAY - Celebrates the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, marking the beginning of Holy Week that culminates in Easter. In some churches, Palm Sunday is combined with the anticipation of Christ's death and so is also known as "Passion Sunday." PENTECOST - The word comes from the Greek which means fifty. So, Pentecost was a celebration on the fiftieth day after Passover. It was a culmination of the feast of weeks. Pentecost in the New Testament is the arrival of the Holy Spirit for the church. At Pentecost the disciples of Jesus were gathered and upon the filling of the Holy Spirit, they heard a great wind and spoke in tongues as tongues of fire that settled upon them. Pentecost is considered the "birthday" of the Christian church.
