THE golden jubilee of the rebuilding of a Sittingbourne church has been celebrated in style. The original Methodist Church was destroyed by German incendiary bombs on the night of January 29, 1944. It was not until October 6, 1951, that the foundation stone for the current building on the same site in the High Street was laid and the church was opened a year later on October 11. To mark the occasion, members and friends of the church enjoyed a weekend of celebration and thanks, which included two performances of Adrian Snell's musical. The Passion. The work was written as a musical performance but on this occasion, additional drama was written and directed by church member Kathy Skipp, supported by her husband Paul in the role of Jesus. Musical direction was by Amanda Boyne. Church minister Christopher Bishop, said: "The whole weekend was very inspiring and was a fitting way to celebrate our past, our present and our optimism for the future." © East Kent Gazette
